Moving Makeover: U-Haul of Superior Fills Vacant Building

737 Indoor Climate-Controlled and Heated Self-Storage Rooms Coming to 3015 Tower Ave.

SUPERIOR, Wis. (July 10, 2017) — U-Haul® is revealing details of its adaptive reuse plan for a vacant former Kmart® department store that will soon be a full-service moving and self-storage facility.

U-Haul Moving & Storage of Superior at 3015 Tower Ave. currently offers truck and trailer sharing, moving supplies and U-Box portable moving and storage containers out of a temporary showroom.

Extensive renovations will soon render 737 indoor climate-controlled and heated self-storage units with high-tech safety features. Self-storage is expected to be available for rent later this fall. Professional hitch installation service and a new showroom will also be highlights of the 88,914-square-foot building on 6.22 acres, which U-Haul acquired on May 11.

“There hasn’t been climate-controlled and heated self-storage in Superior,” U-Haul Company of Northern Minnesota president Bill Piette said. “We’re the first to the party, and we’re excited to offer our quality U-Haul products and services to this deserving community.”

Contact U-Haul Moving & Storage of Superior at (715) 392-2903 or stop by to see construction progress. Hours of operation are 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Thursday and Saturday; 7 a.m.-8 p.m. Friday; and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday. Reserve equipment at uhaul.com or contact Reservations at 1-800-GO-UHAUL.

“This building was sitting vacant and we were able to step in to bring it back to life,” Piette said. “By reusing the building, we save materials and can offer a fresh look to a deteriorating property from the 1980s. Our U-Haul adaptive reuse program enhances the entire community.”

The recent acquisition of the Superior facility was driven by U-Haul Company's Corporate Sustainability initiatives: U-Haul supports infill developments to help local communities lower their carbon footprint. Our adaptive reuse of existing buildings reduces the amount of energy and resources required for new-construction materials and helps cities reduce their unwanted inventory of unused buildings.

U-Haul will look to hire locally once services expand to support job growth within the Superior community. Piette plans to employ at least six Team Members once the store is fully operational. Learn more about U-Haul career opportunities at jobs.uhaul.com.
