N.Y. dealer Angela Chechile named businesswoman of the year
NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y.— U-Haul Dealer Angela Chechile recently was named New Rochelle Businesswoman of the Year. Chechile was selected by the Morning Star Society for her years of service to the community, both in her business endeavors as well as her charitable work.
Chechile and her husband Ciro own New Rochelle Service Center and U-Haul Dealership (031007), and they recently celebrated their 30th anniversary as U-Haul Dealers. In addition to the U-Haul business, Angela was one of the first women in New York state to be licensed to carry out motor vehicle inspections. Also, she’s a licensed real estate agent who owns and maintains several residential and commercial properties, and she operates two retail and service businesses with Ciro.
Fixture in the community
The Chechiles have been a fixture in the community since they came to New Rochelle from Italy in 1963. They’re active with several community and charitable organizations, and Angela’s cooking is legendary. She often hosts large Italian feasts for friends and neighbors.
“I’m thrilled for her!” exclaimed Bruce Brownfeld, area field manager (AFM) for UHC of Manhattan/Bronx (803-001), who attended the November 13th award ceremony. “She’s very active in many different charities, and I’m very proud that her many years of service are being recognized by a town Angela and Ciro have served for so long.
“The society has been trying to get Angela to accept this award for years,” Brownfeld continued, “but she is very modest and always declined. For whatever reason, this year she decided to accept it.”
Angela said Ciro ultimately convinced her to accept the award this year, and she’s glad she did, because her whole family got to attend the ceremony.
“I think it was good for my children and grandchildren to see,” Angela emphasized. “It sets an example for them that if you want something, you need to roll up your sleeves and do it, and you can’t get discouraged. We came here from another country and didn’t speak the language, but we learned English on our own.
“I don’t like to brag about myself,” Angela continued, “but I appreciate what the society did for me. It was very special.”
Congratulations, Angela, on being named New Rochelle Businesswoman of the Year!
