Real Estate News: U-Haul Reveals Plans for Vacant Costco Building

U-Haul will create 20 new jobs with the arrival of its 3rd store in Moncton

MONCTON, N.B. (May 1, 2023) — U-Haul® intends to offer more than 800 indoor climate-controlled self-storage lockers at 25 Trinity Drive to meet the growing customer demand for its services in Moncton.

U-Haul Moving & Storage of Trinity will occupy the former Costco® building at that address. Customers will soon have access to mobility services like truck rentals and trailers, boxes and moving supplies, towing equipment and more from a temporary showroom.

Repurposing the 134,377-square-foot facility will lead to a variety of storage lockers with high-tech security features at affordable price points. Storage customers can select to have access to extended hours. U-Haul acquired the 9.91-acre property on April 20.

“The building has been vacant since Costco left in 2018,” said Devin Mitchell, U-Haul Company of Atlantic Canada president. “It takes a special kind of business to utilize a space this large. U-Haul is a perfect fit because we can implement our adaptive reuse program to take advantage of the entire 130,000-plus square feet without the environmental strain of a new build.”

Acquisition of the former Costco was driven by U-Haul Corporate Sustainability initiatives: U-Haul supports infill developments to help local communities lower their carbon footprint. The adaptive reuse of existing buildings reduces the amount of energy and resources required for new-building materials and helps cities reduce their unwanted inventory of unused buildings.
